Wuding Ding, the largest bronze wares in China The simu-wu tripod is the heaviest bronze ware ever found in China. Its abdomen is cast with the words "simu-wu". It is made by the Shang King's ancestor Geng or ancestor Jia to worship his mother. The tripod body and tripod foot of Simuwu Ding are cast as a whole. The tripod ear is cast after the tripod body is cast. For casting such a large copper vessel, the required metal material should be more than 1000 kg, and there must be a larger furnace. The results show that Simuwuding contains 84.77% copper, 11.64% tin and 27.9% lead, which is basically consistent with the proportion of copper to tin recorded in ancient documents. Simu Wuding fully demonstrates the production scale and technical level of bronze foundry industry in Shang Dynasty. |
